Petition Action

Investigate the Christmas Parties on 13th and 18th December 2020

Petition Details

Investigate these claims and take appropriate action on the individuals involved in these alleged parties in accordance with the COVID-19 regulations at the time of these parties.

Additional Information

13th December 2020 there was a suspected Christmas party at Boris Johnson's flat where there may have been violations of COVID-19 regulations.

18th December 2020 there was another suspected Christmas party at no.10 Downing Street again suspected of violating COVID-19 restrictions.

Action must be taken as the officials who implemented these COVID-19 regulations themselves violated these and should be brought to justice in the same way civilians have been by the police.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Since you started your petition the Government has published terms of reference for an investigation by the Cabinet Secretary into allegations of gatherings that took place or may have taken place last year: www.gov.uk/government/publications/terms-of-reference-for-the-cabinet-secretarys-investigations

Decisions about investigating alleged offences and prosecuting these are a matter for the police and Crown Prosecution Service, not the Government or Parliament. The terms of reference for the above investigation state that if during the course of the work any evidence emerges of behaviour that is potentially a criminal offence, the matter will be referred to the police.
