Rollout new ELMS schemes in full by 2024

Petition Details

It has been reported that the Government may delay, review or replace the new Environmental land management schemes (ELMS) schemes. To protect agricultural emissions targets the Government should roll out the new schemes in full in 2024, as planned.

Additional Information

A report by the Green Alliance (https://green-alliance.org.uk/briefing/delaying-elm-would-halve-its-carbon-savings-by-2035/) has noted that delaying this scheme 2 years would mean losing out on an agricultural emissions savings of 50% by 2035. Seeing as UK agriculture in 2019 accounted for 46.3 megatons of greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere, we cannot risk delaying this scheme as we will not hit our climate goals.
