Petition Action

The minimum pre-cooked weight of prepared fish to be stated in retail outlets.

Petition Details

The British public are not able to make a reasonable and informed decision when purchasing a fish supper or meal with prices and portions changing continually. This is not helped by the skilful process whereby the size of the fish is hidden within a generous coating of batter.

Additional Information

I have visited a Fish and Chip cafe over a period of time and noticed that the portions have regularly decreased and prices increased, resulting in much disappointment. I am not able to complain as they can serve up whatever they feel they can get away with.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Government aren't responsible for regulating the size of pieces of fish, which are to be cooked as part of a fish and chip meal. This would be a matter for individual businesses.
