Petition Action

Reject the unfair £16 energy rise to pay for others energy debt.

Petition Details

People have made sacrifices to keep low energy bills, it is unfair to force people to pay for others energy debts.
I want the government to step in and take responsibility for the energy debt not the public.

Additional Information

The energy crisis is not the public’s fault and the public should not be punished for other people’s energy consumption.

This energy debt should be taken under control of the government and the energy companies.

People who take responsible actions to reduce their energy consumption should not be punished for the consequences of people who don’t.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for. Decisions about the energy price cap are a matter for Ofgem, not the UK Government or Parliament.

Ofgem is consulting on its proposals to add a temporary allowance in the energy price cap for additional bad debt-related costs. You can find out more about these proposals, and respond to Ofgem's consultation here: www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/energy-price-cap-additional-debt-costs-review-consultation
