Petition Action

I propose that the existing qualifying criteria for the blue badge scheme be extended to users of Class II Mobility Scooters.

Additional Information

As the law stands now there are no legal or accepted rights for disabled/aged people using Class II mobility scooters (these are the types most commonly found being driven around our towns and cities).

Under the present system people can only be eligible for a motorised wheelchair to go outside if they qualify for an ordinary wheelchair to use indoors.

These people who have minimal walking distances and do not qualify for an electric wheelchair rely on obtaining a Mobility Scooter or else be totally housebound and find it impossible to access local services such as a post box, a cash machine or the local shops as they can’t walk far enough.

All considerations by councils online and Parliament in 2010 concentrated on safety elements whilst Age UK’s positive attitude seemed sidelined and the case ‘for’ Mobility Scooters has been left open.
