Make it a legal requirement for drivers to stop & report collisions with cats

Petition Details

Under section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, a driver is required to stop & report accidents involving specific animals including dogs, but not cats. We want the Government to introduce legislation that makes it a legal requirement for a driver to stop & report accidents involving cats.

Additional Information

On 20th April at 0950am, our beloved cat Fawkes was hit by a car travelling over the speed limit on a residential street. Fawkes was less than 2 years old and less than 3 metres away from our front garden. The driver failed to stop. If this legislation is created, we would like it to be known as "Fawkes Law".

The impact on a persons' mental health and wellbeing when their cat is hit by a car can be devastating. Cat owners should be entitled to the same due process afforded to dog owners.
