all convicted rioters should get the MAXIMUM fine for their actions to pay for damages, not our tax money.
the government may have to foot the bill for damages for riots, as a certain act may make local police forces liable for damages due to rioting. this may cost the tax payer up to £100 million in total for repairs and damages (initial figures quoted in news papers). i'm all for compensation to victims, however, i feel that those responsible should pay the bill. if we can impose the maximum fines for convicted rioters as a mandatory measure, we should be able to at least minimize that bill by a significant amount.
