Petition Action

Banks to play a role in recognising online gambling addiction

Additional Information

The Action on Addiction website says the fastest growing addiction in the UK is gambling addiction.

I would like to banks and credit card companies play a role in recognising online gambling addiction and be prevented from profiting from their vulnerable customers.

There is currently a high level of advertising for online gambling on TV and in the press, and the number of people who are becoming addicted is increasing. Credit card companies currently extend credit with little in the way of checks, and are extending credit to customers who are addicted to online gambling and are already in debt because of it.

To some people online gambling becomes a strong addiction, that ends up ruining their lives. Its morally wrong that banks and credit card companies are allowed to profit by extending credit to these people. This extra credit only helps to fuel their addiction, and leaves them more in debt.
