Bring MPs expenses and working conditions in line with the public sector and the Universal Credit

Additional Information

We, the undersigned, call for a review the MPs’ expenses system and working conditions in line with proposals for the public sector and the introduction of the Universal Credit, with the aim of saving millions of pounds a year to help the austerity measures. We ask specifically for:

- The end of the current MPs’ expenses system in order to “improve work incentives” and “cut back on fraud and error”;

- The introduction of a new system, where a single claimant aged 25 or over is eligible to claim a standard allowance of £311.55 a month;

- The second homes of MPs and those they own with additional bedrooms to be subject to higher taxation or a reduction of the allowance;

- MPs to be subject to a maximum 1% pay rise until at least 2015-2016 and pension contributions and payouts to be in line with the public sector;

- To increase motivation and efficiency, MPs to be subject to regional pay variations and an independent grading system.
