BT's Champions League deal in the face of public subsidy

We, the undersigned, hereby petition parliament to question why BT have paid £299 million per season for the rights to screen Champions League and Europa League football whilst they are receiving public subsidy for the maintenance and upgrade of their network.

This e-petition has been rejected with the following reason given:

It did not have a clear statement explaining what action you want the government to take.

The following explanatory notes have been added:

this is something to raise with your MP to ask in Parliament. Gvt does not interfere with operating decisions of companies.
