Change the law to protect parental contributions for house purchase on divorce
1000s of parents are donating money to their son or daughter’s house purchases. Parents are providing part or all of the large deposits required in today’s inflated UK housing market. Currently there is no law protecting these funds in the event of a divorce and the Government needs to address this.
Families are providing funds believing this money will stay with their children or indeed their grandchildren further down the line in the event of a divorce. This is not the case. Declaration of Trusts or similar deeds are ignored by judges and the non-contributing partner is wrongly benefitting.
Legal protection is needed to stop these contributions and inheritances disappearing from the original families.
