Petition Action

Create new 'Homeless Imposter Act', to make masquerading as homeless illegal.

Petition Details

Make illegal, anyone in receipt of housing benefit, to receive money or shelter allocated to homeless people. Some opportunists receiving housing benefit, masquerade as homeless, and receive food & sleep in homeless night shelters, where places are limited, so genuine homeless people are turned away

Additional Information

Some opportunists in receipt of housing benefit, collect £100 in a day by calling out to passers-by in front of tube stations in places such as Mayfair, Chelsea and Kensington. As a result, 'donations' aren't getting to the genuine homeless, who often lack sufficient confidence to beg so aggressively in such lucrative positions on the street. Passers-by are conned into parting with their money, whilst these opportunists commit benefit fraud as they sell 'being pitied' on the street.
