Criminalise Internet Listening- in & File Sharing Recording

Additional Information

In accordance to our rights to privacy and data protection, a petition for the government to criminalise unauthorised clandestine internet tapping.

With all of the furore over the recent News Of The World phone tapping scandal why is secretly monitoring and eavesdropping on internet connections without authority deemed to be any different?

Many large organisations are currently indiscriminately monitoring, listening-in and recording our internet activity without any legal clearance or authority. If they were phone tapping then we all know what the consequences would be, but it is no different.

Much of this already contravenes the UK Data Protection Act 1998 and also our right to privacy under the European Convention on Human Rights which the UK government have signed up to and yet we live in a country where an ISP like o2 is ordered to hand-over personal subscriber information under duress as a result of mass unregulated and legally unsanctioned internet tapping.
