Petition Action

Declare St George's Day an English National Holiday

Additional Information

I strongly believe that St George's Day (23rd April), should be declared an English National Holiday so that every Englishman/woman can celebrate their Patron Saint. England is the only country within the UK that does not have an official Holiday to recognise its Patron Saint.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Sorry, this isn't very clear when you say a National Holiday. Are you wanting to make it a Bank Holiday (people off work?), or want the Government to organise a day of celebration?

If you want to create a new Bank Holiday, please re-submit for the attention of the Department for Business.

(the other countries actually don't have 'official holidays' for their Patron Saints - people still go to work on those days, banks remain open etc.)
