Petition Action

Establish right in law to identity protection.

Additional Information

Consequences of identity theft can not only ruin the emotional and financial lives of the individuals involved but also allow the identity thief to gain, from criminal activity, of use of services to which they are not entitled.

Sign for:

1/ The creation of a national, opt-in "secure identity register".
2/ The reintroduction of the optional National identity Card scheme to support the function of the register.

By opting into the register an individual is assured of the following:

1/ All financial arrangements made in their name will require them to identify themselves using the biometric data on their identity card/register entry therefore no one else could pretend to be them.
2/ All police/legal actions involving them will first require them to identify themselves (as above) therefore no one else could pretend to be them.
3/ When using public services e.g. NHS, they must first identify themselves.
4/ When voting in elections they must identify themselves.
