Petition Action

Give more support to fostering agencies to combat a shortage of carers in the UK

Petition Details

We want more people involved in foster care so that children don't feel left out, are kept safe and made to feel like they are part of a family. We are raising awareness because overall in the UK there are over 70,000 children in care and there are not enough adults involved.

Additional Information

70,440 children were in the care of local authorities in 2016 which is rising. The rate of Looked After Children per 10,000 under 18 years on 2016 was 60. This figure varies significantly at Local Authority level from a low of 22 (Wokingham) to a high of 164 (Blackpool).
9,070 fostering families are needed right across the UK, to give loving homes and supportive family environments to children. £400 week is offered for all ages by fostering agencies and it is classed as a profession.
