Investigate miscalculations of benefits resulting in overpayments being issued

Petition Details

Council miscalculations leaving people below the official breadline and not taking responsibility for their errors.

Additional Information

Speaking to friends it seems we are all being hit with hefty overpayment bills due to no fault of our own. Leading to some people losing their homes. It's no longer acceptable. I myself was issued a bill today 16/07/16 for two and a half thousand pounds dating back to 2013 even though I handed them all information requested. I'm on a minimum wage and just scrape by, where am I finding this repayment ? Due to someone's poor mathematical skills it's wrong and has to stop now.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

In any case, if you're concerned about your local council's miscalculation, this is not something the Government and Parliament are responsible for. It would be the responsibility of your local council.

You could raise your issue with a local councillor, who represents you. You can use this page to find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them:
