Petition Action

Keep an independent regulatory authority for the press.

Additional Information

Over the last 300 years the UK has been fortunate and operated a system of full freedom of speech/thought and expression.

The recent leveson report does not provide the necessary safeguards if implemented that this freedom would continue. No law is perfect, just look at the UK Health and Safety act, this is now caused so many problems in most areas of life.

The last Government introduced a public order act that now limits debates on certain issues and allows stupid prosecutions as can be seen.
(Calling a police Horse Gay).

Do not sit back and think it cannot happen here but a police state is the next step if you let any parliamentary regulation of the press.

The government must ensure no regulations to limit a free press must be introduced.
