Make it illegal to ask for someone’s previous salary.
The salary negotiation process, and specifically the gender salary gap is directly affected by a company knowing a person’s previous salary.
The salary band for the role should be defined for the role, and based on the responsibility and scope.
This shouldn’t be based on the previous salary.
Previous salary should be treated like date of birth or age, gender, disability or trade union membership.
