Petition Action

Stop the atrocities committed in North Korean prison camps

Additional Information

We call on the UK government and international community to make a motion for immediate action against human rights violations in prison camps in North Korea.
In camps clearly visible on Google maps, an estimated 200,000 people are imprisoned in North Korea under inhumane conditions.
Shin Dong hyuk, who miraculously escaped, was routinely tortured, starved and beaten. Guards are trained not to treat prisoners as human beings, “but as dogs or pigs”.

The UN Human Rights Council established a year long Commission of Inquiry into these violations in March 2013.

However, we have an obligation to prevent such atrocities more urgently and decisively.
Shin said, “People think the Holocaust is in the past, but it is still very much a reality going on in North Korea.”
