The NHS needs to exemplify health and lead by example

Additional Information

The NHS spends £5bn, of tax-payers money, per year on obesity related illness.

But, how can the NHS expect to reduce obesity when 700,000 of its own staff are overweight, it perpetuates ill-health by providing patients, staff and visitors with poor quality food and condones obesity by installing retailers and vending machines in hospitals which mainly sell cake, muffins, cheese panini, fried food, chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks?

I believe that for the NHS to succeed, the National HEALTH Service needs to start leading by example and practising what it preaches.  1) the health of all staff needs to be addressed (if the NHS can't make its own staff healthy, it certainly can't improve the health of the nation).  2) all NHS facilities need to recognise and promote the values of good nutrition in prevention and cure of illness and only provide food to patients, staff and visitors which is fresh, wholesome, nutritionally beneficial and supports a healthy lifestyle.
