Truthful transparency in describing the length of a prison sentencee
The published length of a prison sentence to be expressed as the minimum time to be served once discounts have been applied. At present, a convicted criminal is announced as having received 10 years when in fact the application of guilty plea discounts and automatic discounts bring the term to be served nearer to 4 years. The British public are entitled to transparency of sentencing. Judges should be instructed to pronouce a sentence that WILL BE SERVED after relevant discounts have been applied, and not gross as at present.
