The police and fire services should be recognised for their work during the riots

Additional Information

The riots of 2011 presented an unprecedented challenge to the emergency services which they handled with dignity, restraint, bravery and a great deal of professionalism.

These policemen and firefighters provided a worthy counterpoint to the thuggery and nihilism of the rioters and looters, and helped maintain a distance between civil British society and the criminality of the perpetrators.

The police and fire services should be recognised for this.
