National Service For The Unemployable
I would like to suggest that benefit claiments who are the recipients of an ASBO or those convicted of riot offences, should be required by law to undertake National Service in the Armed Forces for a period of at least 12 months. This would be on a salary equivilent to their benefits.
Refusal of National Service would prevent those individuals from claiming benefits.
This would not only introduce discipline into their lives, but will also teach them new skills, which could lead to a career either within the Armed Forces or in civilian life.
This would also enable the UK to bolster it's armed forces at a reasonably low cost.
