Introduction of non-military national service
It's well documented that people have little pride in their local communities and that we've become a nanny state.
It's my belief that if people were more involved in their local community that they'd respect it, leading to a drop in anti-social behaviour and crime, thereby engendering a sense of pride in local communities and the nation as a whole.
This e-petition would seek to introduce a single 6-month scheme for all those leaving school at the age of 16, ie after their GCSEs and before starting work/A-levels. People would spend 6 months in their local community helping the elderly, the infirm, children, cleaning the environment etc... In essence, improving the local community and giving something back.
At the end of the 6 months, they'd get a certificate and their name would be added to a register. Taking it to the next level would mean that those on the register are then entitled to vote and (if necessary) receive benefits.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
