End the drug war. Respond to the evidence based demands for decriminalisation.
The results of our country's Zero-Tolerance Drug Prohibition policy are multifaceted, overlapping, and overwhelmingly negative. There exists copious evidence which builds a strong case against prohibition- which pushes drugs into the black market, fails to reduce harm, addiction rates, and violence.
Professor Sue Pryce, at the School of International Relations, University of Nottingham, UK, claims: 'Prohibition has provided incentives for a complex and sophisticated network of international drug gangs, widespread violence, the corruption of state institutions, the involuntary displacement of people and environmental damage'. (Extract from: Sue Pryce's 'Fixing Drugs, p.2, (2012)
