Promote greater public awareness of dementia
There are a few organisations attempting to make people more dementia aware. However, the full effects of how dementia affects people is still not publicised enough. More publicity and awareness needs to focus on the horrendous side of this illness
Many people see dementia as, 'elderly people who have lost their memory and gone a bit crazy'. They do not understand the severity of this illness, or the suffering that the person and their families go through, and that it is not only the older generation who are diagnosed with dementia, The mood changes, the abuse and anger, that carers can be subjected to, The lack of inhibitions, difficulties eating and drinking, incontinence issues, and loss of mental and physical capacity of the sufferer.
