Petition Action

Make debating all petitions that reach over 100,000 signatures mandatory.

Petition Details

A number of petitions on the Government's petition website that have reached over 100,000 signatures have been dismissed with nothing but a few paragraphs of explanation without explicitly cited evidence. The public feels that this approach undermines the meaning of democracy.

Additional Information

At the time of writing, two petitions with more than twice the required number of signatures to validate them for debate have been dismissed in what comes off as an arrogant and out-of-touch manner. Our government must respect public opinion and up-to-date scientific evidence on matters that warrant enough attention to gather over a hundred thousand supporters, and encourage debate on these matters rather than dismissing them.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

We cannot accept duplicate petitions. We think this petition is similar to yours:

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/104933

You might like to sign this petition instead. It is more likely to get more signatures that way.
