Iain Duncan Smith to be prosecuted for manslaughter

Petition Details

More than 2,500 sick and disabled benefit claimants have died after being found 'fit for work' in just two years. This is a direct result of Iain Duncan Smith's policy of forcing sick claimants back to work or reducing benefits payments which have had a direct and provable links to their deaths.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Manslaughter is a criminal offence. It would therefore be a matter for the police in the first instance, and then for the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether to prosecute.

You might find it useful to know that corporate manslaughter will not apply to certain public and government functions where there exist wider questions of public policy. You can find out more on the CPS website:

http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/a_to_c/corporate_manslaughter/#as12

You could start a petition about the policies of the Department for Work and Pensions, or you may find that there is already a petition open on the issues that concern you.
