Petition Action

Reverse the decision made by Royal Mail to axe local mail in rural areas.

Petition Details

Royal Mail is removing the local mail service. For example, all local mail from the Isle of Tiree will now have to be flown to Glasgow to be franked, and flown back to the island to be delivered. This will impact local businesses and services and adversely affect rural infrastructure.

Additional Information

Previously, local mail was franked locally and delivered, without ever leaving the Island. This change will create inconvenience for local schools, surgeries, businesses and residents.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This is an operational decision for Royal Mail, which has been privatised. You could raise this issue directly with Royal Mail itself.
