Drop the use of the title "Right Honourable" from Members of Parliament

Petition Details

Over the last several parliaments it is seen that corporate & personal corruption, fraud, sexual abuse, murder, mass murder, war crimes & lies are part and parcel of many MP's careers. This is not the behaviour expected of anyone bearing such a title. The title should be dropped from use.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Not all MPs are entitled to use the title "Right honourable". This is a title that may be used by members of the Privy Council. You can find out more about the Privy Council here:

http://privycouncil.independent.gov.uk/

Not all members of the Privy Council are MPs.

During debates, MPs refer to other MPs (if they are not members of the Privy Council) as "the honourable gentlement/lady" or "my honourable friend".
