Require Parliamentary Approval before Ratifying Treaties
The government makes too many decisions in the Queen's name without the need for Parliamentary approval. Ratification of treaties is one example. Treaties such as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, negotiated through EU have huge implications, and ratification should not be hasty.
The petition in detail:
“Bearing in mind that treaties currently being negotiated through the European Union are increasingly ambitious, controversial, and could have extensive negative consequences for the UK; will the government:
a. Work within the European Council to try to ensure that all such treaties require ratification by members states.
b. Ensure that no such treaty will be ratified by the UK without an affirmative vote of both Houses of Parliament.”
