Petition Action

The new junior doctor contract puts patient safety at risk and must be withdrawn

Petition Details

The new junior doctor contract put patients lives at risk by creating staff shortages and unsafe working patterns and hours for doctors. It should be disbanded immediately and the government should hold discussions with the BMA and doctors collaboratively without the threat of unilateral imposition

Additional Information

The new contract will lead to the following:

-Remove safeguards ensuring doctors have safe working patterns
-Create disincentives for doctors to work in shortage specialities eg A&E and GP
-Disadvantage women who wish to start a family
-Reduce pay of junior doctors (starting salary: £23K/yr)

This will lead to a worsening of doctor shortages and create unsafe working patterns and hours
