Petition Action

Stop serving subsidised alcohol in the House of Lords and the House of Commons

Petition Details

Between 2010 and 2015 the House of Lords bought in 17,000 bottles of Champagne. That's an average of 21 bottles per peer over the space of the Parliament. End this injustice during a time of so called austerity.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We could accept a petition calling for the House of Commons to stop serving subsidised alcohol in its bars.

However, the House of Lords administration is independent. Neither the Government or the House of Commons could take this action for the House of Lords.

We use the term "Parliament" on this site to keep things simple for people, but strictly speaking it is a joint site owned by the Government and the House of Commons.
