Prevent Rugby Union from simply using the term Rugby as there 2 codes of Rugby.
Since 1895 there have been two codes of Rugby. Rugby League and Rugby Union. In recent years, the English Rugby Union and International Rugby Board have taken (and trademarked) the term Rugby to imply there is only one form of the game.
A current example is the Rugby World Cup. It should correctly be called the Rugby Union World Cup as should the next Rugby League World Cup in 2017. As a comparison FIFA don't call the world cup, the football world cup. If the NFL secured the rights to the term football (as opposed to American Foortball), then it would imply there is only one form of the game. There are two forms of rugby and neither form should have the rights to simply call themselves Rugby

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
This is a matter for the governing body of the sport rather than for the Government or Parliament. In addition, it would not be possible for the Government to take action with an international effect.
You might like to raise this with the English Rugby Union and the International Rugby Board.
