Petition Action

Legalize use of electric mobility devices (segways/hoverboards) on public roads

Petition Details

The Highway Act 1835, which bans riding vehicles on the pavement, was originally written 180 years ago to forbid people
from using pavements or footways to “lead or drive any horse, sheep, mule, swine, or cattle or carriage of any description”,
in England and Wales.

Additional Information

This Highway act is out of touch with today's society and innovations such as Segways or self balancing boards / hoveboards and should not be used to outlaw electric mobility devices from the streets.

These devices, should be in new legal category as
"electrically motorised boards" characterised by moving no faster than 20mph, carrying only one person and being no bigger than 60 by 18 inches.

Electric mobility devices - completely safe, free and green way to travel! Sign this petition now!
