Make art industries more accessible to young people regardless of background.
>THE ARTS INDUSTRIES ARE CLASS DRIVEN
As a young person who has to travel 53 miles every weekend to attend a quality arts centre, it has made me realise that this shouldn't be the lengths we have to go to, to try and find our way into the arts industries.
>Currently only 10% of actors are considered working class
>What do Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch all have in common? They are all public school-educated actors
>There are not enough reasonably priced local centres and opportunities for young people to seek quality training or experience in the arts.
(E.g. the 'National Youth Music Theatre' charging £1375-£1875 for a 3-4 week course)
TRAVELLING HUGE DISTANCES, PAYING HUGE SUMS OF MONEY SHOULD NOT BE THE ONLY ROUTE INTO THE ARTS
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It's clear that you're concerned about access to the arts industries. But we're not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
If you could start a petition asking for a clearer action, we could look at this again.
