Make UK supermarkets scrap the 'cosmetic standards' on fruit and vegetables
Each year, farmers in the UK and abroad are forced to throw away billions of tonnes of fruit & vegetables because they do not meet the 'cosmetic standards' required to be sold to UK supermarkets. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this produce, it is just not the 'perfect' size or shape.
It is ridiculous that supermarkets get to decide what is the 'perfect' size or shape for fruit & vegetables and can reject produce from farmers because is it does not meet these standards. The wastage of 'ugly' produce that has absolutely nothing wrong with it must stop.
