Convicted rioters should serve out 6 month placements with UK charities and community projects away from home
Instead of imposing jail terms (at further cost to the British tax payer) on those individuals convicted of looting, disorder and damage following the UK riots (9-11 august 2011) the government should send offenders away from their families and home towns (in groups of three) to rural and community projects, and registered charities throughout the UK for a period (up to 6 months) to work for, and be mentored by, persons whose dedication and daily self sacrifice may inspire them to make a different choice in the future.
