Reform of the House of Lords in a Sensible and Balanced Manner

Additional Information

We the undersigned petition the government to hold a debate on reform of the House of Lords into an elected body. This body would consist of specialists in a variety of categories of competence such as education, jurisprudence, law enforcement, the armed forces, industry, science, health care etc. Nominations by House of Commons Political Parties to be no larger than 30% of the whole, the remainder to stand as “independents” for election selected by a variety of as yet undetermined methods according to category. The powers of this elected house, to be renamed the Senate, along the lines of those exercised in the United States and Australia with regards legislative authority. Term limits of five years with no more than three terms able to be served by any one individual.
