Allow men who have sex with men to donate blood.
The NHS tells me that I cannot donate blood 12 months after sex with another male (regardless of whether or not protection is used).
Surely the NHS test all the blood that they receive for AIDS/HIV and surely they don't re-use needles and other equipment.
I understand that queer men have an increased risk of AIDS/HIV and that this is a disease over which a lot of caution must be taken. 1 in 20 men who have sex with men (MSM) between 15 and 44 suffer from this disease and this is a terrible thing. However, I do not and cannot believe that this prevention of MSM from giving blood is truly about AIDS/HIV, because they test the blood for disease. It's about men having sex with men.
