Meat is without a doubt a demerit good. Why isn't it taxed like one?
The meat industry should be regulated in order to make sure animals have the space they require and are not abused. Moreover, recent studies showed that meat is causing cancer and reduces the life span of consumers. Thus, isn't it for the best of the public interest to be taxed like a demerit good?
A recent study conducted by the World Health Organisation showed that meat consumption causes cancer.

"A huge study of Seventh Day Adventists who ate little or no meat showed longevity increases of 7.28 years in men and 4.42 years in women."
