The government must consider implementing a CARERS LAW.
Informal carers (to dementia sufferers) work 24 hours with sleep deprivation, and stamina tested to the extreme. Local authorities are not considerate enough to informal carers who struggle with respite care provision when their loved ones refuse to leave the house.
The health of the informal carer is not given due priority. As a result, such carers are suffering poor health especially in cases of moderate or vascular dementia where the dementia sufferer can still remain in their home looked after by a family member. Carers may not leave the home due to a dementia sufferer’s hostility and paranoia in which the carer is the focus of verbal aggression. The authorities unwittingly collude with the carers’ sense of guilt into caring for the dementia sufferer.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We're not sure what you would like a Carers' Law to contain. If you can start a new petition, explaining clearly what effect you think this new law should have, we would be able to accept it. For example, you could ask for local authorities to be required by law to provide a certain amount of respite care per year to informal carers.
