One Pension Scheme across the whole of the Public and Private Sectors.
There has been much debate recently about the gap between Public and Private Sector Pensions.
The Pensions Act 2008 introduced new duties on employers which will require them to automatically enrol all their workers into a workplace pension scheme that meets or exceeds certain legal requirements.
The government, as the largest employer in the UK, should take the opportunity to bring Public Sector pensions into line with Private Sector pensions provision by ensuring that a single scheme applies across all public sector organisations and that contributions henceforth meet the minimum requirements required by the Pensions Act 2008.
Public Sector staff would be free to make additional provisions for retirement through any of the many mechanisms available to private sector workers.
