30 hours "free" childcare: Support private nurseries. Stop underfunding!
The pre-election pledge to provide 30 hours "free" childcare is unsustainable unless nurseries are properly funded to provide the high quality childcare the government promises. The gap between what government propose and what it costs is highly flawed. Parents need to know the true costs.
- Government are demanding control of private childcare providers by promoting 30 hours of "free childcare" disregarding the sectors' protestations that they will be significantly underfunded.
- All working parents earning up to £200K per household will be eligible for this.
- Proposals are very different from the reality of what nurseries provide. They describe the minimum requirements, at the lowest end of the market, yet continue to promote the need for high quality childcare.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We're not sure what action you would like the Government to take. You could start a petition calling on the Government to subsidise certain kinds of childcare provider in order to help them to implement its policy, if that is what you would like to happen. Or you could call for the Government to change its policy altogether - for example, by reducing the number of hours of free childcare offered, or by changing the requirements for eligibility.
