Right to Buy - 70% discount should mean exactly that: 70% means 70%

Petition Details

Recently the Government have implemented various measures in order to meet their own targets of house purchases within the UK. The Help to Buy scheme (including ISAs), the 20% discount on market prices for approximately 100,000 first time buyers under 40yrs of age etc. Both schemes are ageist.

Additional Information

One popular scheme, the Right to Buy has been amended by Government to the extent that it is now also discriminatory towards long term tenants as no qualifying tenant receives the full 70% discount due to Government capping. Such tenants are stuck in the rent trap, many of them being in their 50s and unable to secure a mortgage on normal terms in order to buy on the open market.

We urge the Government to rethink its stance and make the full 70% discount mean 70%.
