Let the British people decide whether to renew Trident or not in a referendum.
There are divisions within political parties and military/defence circles and widespread concern on the economic impact of spending such grotesque sums on Trident renewal. £167 billion was the latest figure outlined by Minister of State for Defence Procurement Philip Dunne. http://tiny.cc/evg47x
Important referendums positively engage the electorate in the democratic process. Many countries and US states hold referendums on major issues. An Iraq referendum could have saved the agonies to follow! Polls consistently show a majority of the population against renewing Trident. All of us should be engaged in the debate and given the opportunity to say yes or no in deciding our own destiny upon such a critical strategic, moral and economic issue.
