Re-introduce permission to smoke at Psychiatric Hospitals.
This is to improve patient care, understanding, rapport building and compliance with treatment in this difficult setting. The introduction of a ban has led to many barriers in patient care and freedon of choice should be exercised.
Staff and patients alike are now seeing that smoking, although detrimental to health is important for this group of people. It enables better compliance with treatment and allows patients to cope better. Smoking should be re-introduced in the grounds, designated smoking areas and smoking rooms on wards.
