Petition Details

That Mr Duncan-Smith be the first of Her Majesties Government to show exactly how this can be done on a day to day basis, for 1 month, including the costs of Food, accommodation, clothing, travel and every other normal expense that one of these families or individuals may have to cope with.

Additional Information

The well publicised statements of Mr Duncan-Smith in the Media that he is able to live on the £53 per week and then £7 per day.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay. IPSA conducted a public consultation after 2012 and decided what the salaries of MPs should be after the election.
