Petition Action

Reduce the work-load of Teachers and Schools

Petition Details

Teachers work over sixty hours in a week. The work-load has increased signficantly over the past five years due to constant and rapid curriulum changes and the ever-changing OFSTED expectations. Teachers need a work-life balance. Teaching, marking and assessment have now become very time-consuming.

Additional Information

There are more teachers leaving the profession than ever before. The workload is increasing every academic year. Teacher expectations and responsibilities have expanded to cover the role of parents, social workers and counsellors. Rigourous monitoring, tracking and scrutiny have killed the creativity, independence and fun in the classroom. There is more paperwork than ever before. A school is viewed as a "results factory" and no longer a place of learning, nurturing and fun.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to clearly ask for a specific action from Government or Parliament. You could start a new petition asking clearly for the changes you think are needed to reduce the workload of teachers.
